David A. Lockmiller (1906-2005) was an author and professor of history and political science. The collection includes correspondence and papers, 1937-1958, of Lockmiller in connection with the preparation of his biography, (1955); forty-four scattered items, 1916-1931, from the papers of General Crowder (1859-1932), consisting chiefly of his correspondence with General Hugh S. Johnson about selective service and other matters; and letters, 1939-1944, relating to Lockmiller's (1942), clippings about the book, and correspondence with Joseph Morrison at the University of North Carolina about the latter's biography of Governor O. Dr. David A. Lockmiller (1906-2005) served as president of the University of Chattanooga from 1942 to 1959. Born in Athens, Tennessee, Lockmiller earned a B.Ph. and M.A. from Emory University, LL.C. from Cumberland University, and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. He also attended sessions at Oxford University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Paris. He practiced law in Missouri from 1929-1934.
